reduce your carbon footprint.com

The average American household is responsible for 22 Tons of CO2 each year.  70% of this comes from burning fossil fuels (oils, coal and gas) to produce heat, light and for transport.

Some simple changes can make a lot of difference for example lowering the thermostat by 2 degrees in winter and raising it 2 degrees in summer can save 2000 pounds of CO2 and around $100 a year.  If every household in the US changed 3 ordinary light bulbs for energy changing ones it would save one Trillion pounds of CO2 and $60 per household each every year.

Take a look at the figures for the UK and that will give you an idea of what you can save.  One Kg is equal to just over 2 pounds.

If 70% comes from fuels, the other 30% comes the goods we buy.  This can be reduced if people buy local foods from Farmer's Markets.  It's not unusual for foods to be transported 1500 miles by road, this adds to the carbon footprint.

Here are some sites that give details of local food markets.
